The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 32GB, the world's most powerful Android slate, is a perfect example of the "pro tablet" dilemma. Much like Apple's iPad Pro, this is a tablet that's priced like a laptop, but its mobile operating system holds it back when it comes to productivity. Its saving grace is the S Pen, making the Tab S3 brilliant for sketching and note-taking—but that may not be worth $ We've been down this road before. Android- and iOS-powered tablets make terrific media consumption gadgets, and their respective styli let them dip into productivity. Apps that look and feel like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and other high-end creator titles appear on the Apple and Google Play app stores. But they lack the full functionality you get from Windows. That's fine when you're paying less than you would for a similar Windows tablet, but once you get into the $600-$800 range, you don't want to have to make compromises. Physical Design The Galaxy Tab S3 is a big, silvery slab with a glass back. At by by inches HWD and ounces, it's slightly thinner and lighter than the iPad Pro by by inches, ounces. Similar Products That glass back makes me nervous. It's pretty enough, but I don't see the point, other than making the tablet more breakable. After all, the Galaxy Tab S2 has a nice matte back, and the iPad line does just fine with metal. The glass here is Gorilla Glass 4, and it's not slippery, which is well and good, but it really feels like a potential point of failure. The front and rear cameras are both positioned to be used in portrait mode. On the bottom, there's a USB-C charging and syncing port that supports Qualcomm Quickcharge and a headphone jack. The 2,048-by-1,536, screen appears identical to the one on the Galaxy Tab S2. It has the perfect blacks and brilliant colors that only AMOLED can produce, and makes iPads feel a little washed out. Samsung says it supports HDR, but right now the only examples of HDR you can find are a few streaming videos on Amazon; there just isn't enough content for this to be a meaningful feature yet. Performance The Tab S3 runs Android Nougat on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with 4GB of RAM. That's far more powerful, processor-wise, than the chip in the Galaxy Tab S2 a Samsung Exynos, and you can see the difference primarily in gaming frame rates On the GFXBench Manhattan test, the new tablet gets 33 fps where the old one got 7. Better graphics and processor performance also contribute to the butter-smooth feeling of using the S Pen in drawing and note-taking applications. Faster processor performance isn't really perceivable in other uses, such as the browser or office apps. This is, obviously, not stock Android—is it ever?—but Samsung has really dialed back the bloatware. The redundant web browser and music player are gone, in favor of Google's options. Samsung's proprietary dual-window multitasking still has a few useful features added in Quick Connect lets you fling content to TVs and set-top boxes that support it, and you can download a free Kids Mode for parental controls. But as very few people have a TabPro S, it ends up being much less useful than Apple's Continuity, as it's unlikely to work on your desktop. The Tab S3 we tested is a Wi-Fi-only model, although carriers will sell an LTE version in the future. Wi-Fi performance was absolutely spectacular in testing, especially on the 5GHz band, where I got faster uplink than on the Galaxy Tab S2. The tablet supports dual-band The tablet only comes in one memory size, 32GB, of which is free. You can add a microSD card to a slot on the side to provide up to 256GB more storage, but you can't use Google's Adoptable Storage to merge that with internal storage. Battery life is excellent on the 6,000mAh cell We got 9 hours, 9 minutes on our video streaming test, which outpaced the five and a half hours we saw with the iPad Pro. And that was at full screen brightness, which is very, very bright; you're more likely to use the tablet at half brightness, where it would surely outlast its promised 12 hours. S Pen and Keyboard You're here for the S Pen. While you can get a great media consumption tablet for $200 less than the Tab S3, Samsung's Wacom-powered plastic pen sets this slate apart from both competitors and its predecessor. The included S Pen is a flattened oval with a tip and an action button on the side. Because it's flattened, it doesn't roll away. Serious pen users, though, should spring for the Staedtler S Pencil, which looks and feels just like a classic European pencil. Unfortunately, we don't have a date or price for that accessory yet. I found this to be the most accurate iteration of the S Pen ever In OneNote, Evernote, and Autodesk Sketchbook, it didn't drop any lines or dots tapped on the screen. It's definitely pressure-sensitive, with pressure showing up in a wide range of art apps, but it isn't tilt-sensitive. For taking notes, it's superior to the Apple Pencil $ at AmazonOpens in a new window because it's lighter and less fatiguing. It's also cheaper to replace, at $79 vs. $99, and has no battery, so it doesn't need to be charged. Irritatingly, there's nowhere to stash the S Pen unless you get the $129 keyboard case pictured here, which has a loop on the side that the pen tucks into. The loop does not fit the S Pencil, which slides out of it. For the record, Apple also doesn't offer a place to put your Apple Pencil, but Samsung didn't need to repeat that mistake. The keyboard case connects via magnet and has clicky keys. It's a four-row keyboard with dedicated number and arrow keys, which is great, but the keys are just a bit too small at just about a half-inch wide each, as compared with around five-eighths of an inch on a full laptop or desktop keyboard for long typing sessions. Audio and Video Samsung, like Apple, went for quad speakers here. The speakers can tell which rotation you're in; the top ones play "near field" sound and the bottom ones "far field," to give you a sense of space. They're 6db louder than the Galaxy Tab S2's speakers, but I still found them to be noticeably tinny rather than rich. Also, if you're holding the tablet in landscape mode, you're probably blocking two of the speakers with your hands, a problem that most tablets including Apple's have. The Tab S3 has a 13-megapixel main camera and a 5-megapixel front camera. The main camera records 1080p and 4K video in any lighting conditions. The front camera also does well with 1080p and 4K video, so video chatting is not a problem. Still pictures are another story We weren't impressed with either camera. Photos taken with the main camera often looked like they had a haze or veil over them, prompting us to wipe the lens, which didn't help. The front-facing camera showed heavy artifacting when we looked at photos pixel for pixel. Comparisons and Conclusions No other Android tablet has the Galaxy Tab S3's specs. But no other Android tablet except for the occasional Sony slate has the Galaxy Tab S3's price. At $ or $ with the keyboard, the Tab S3 competes with not only the iPad Pro, but with Windows detachables like the Lenovo Miix 510 and the Acer Switch Alpha 12, and that's where it runs into trouble. The Tab S3 makes a great media consumption, sketching, and note-taking device. For pure media consumption, though, you might as well go for the Asus Zenpad 3S 10 or the new iPad and save yourself $200 or more. For true productivity, meanwhile, Android still feels weak and crippled compared with the full Windows versions of apps like Adobe Photoshop, Microsoft Office, and even web browsers that include Flash and Java. The iPad Pro faces the same dilemma. So, I'll repeat You're here for the S Pen or even better, the S Pencil. The Galaxy Tab S3 is ready to capture your ideas, bubbling over in script or image. If I had to pick one tablet to watch video on for the rest of my life, I would pick the Samsung Galaxy Tab Good The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is an elegantly designed tablet that comes with a capable stylus. It has a stunning AMOLED screen, fingerprint sensor for extra security and satisfyingly loud quad speakers. It's also the first HDR-ready tablet. The Bad Despite the hype, HDR content is not available on the tablet yet. Large games take time to load. The keyboard add-on is an expensive extra. The Bottom Line Samsung packs buzz-worthy features like S Pen and HDR support into its new premium Galaxy Tab S3, but without a keyboard packed in, it's still more about content consumption than creation. It's a stylish, all-glass tablet with an impressively crisp and vibrant screen and four speakers, making it an excellent portable movie theater. It's also the first HDR-ready tablet, although there are a few asterisks to that bullet point. HDR stands for high dynamic range, which means a spectacular, noticeable difference in contrast and color range in comparison to regular HD. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a sexy HDR tablet with stylus See all photos That type of high-quality video content isn't even close to becoming as commonplace as HD content is today, yet Samsung is still flexing this future-forward feature as an advantage over high-end tablets such as the Apple iPad Pro the Microsoft Surface Pro 4 and the Google Pixel C. Included in the $600 base price is the revamped Samsung S-Pen stylus, a real treat for those who still relish good old-fashioned note-taking. The addition of the S-Pen adds a dash of productivity and creativity to a device that's otherwise best used for leisurely activities. But if a sharp screen, great audio and an excellent stylus is on your must-have features list, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a top choice for indulging in binge-watching style, wherever you go. HD content looks razor sharp, colorful and bright. The excellent picture quality is complemented by four speakers, featuring AKG by Harman Kardon's expert tuning. With one speaker at each corner, they sound satisfyingly loud and clear, though it's best to avoid cranking it to max volume as the audio tends to sound tinny when pushed to its limit. According to Samsung, the tablet features positional audio, which rotates what comes through the four speakers as you turn the tablet. It's supposed to push the dialogue and vocals to the top two speakers, no matter whether you're holding it in portrait or landscape mode. This means it's capable of playing HDR content, which is like HD content but on steroids. HDR video has increased range of color and enhanced contrast between highlights and shadows, resulting in sensationally vivid picture Super AMOLED2,048x1,536-pixel resolution Those with 4K TVs might be more familiar with HDR, because that's currently the only way to watch it. At the time of review, there's no Samsung native HDR content or easily accessible way to view HDR content on tablets . According to Netflix, it doesn't have any plans to support HDR on the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3. Amazon and FandangoNow both plan on supporting the feature, simply stating that HDR content will be available "soon." When reached for comment, VUDU did not clarify whether or not it would make its UHD content available for the tablet. No HDR content means settling for HD - for now. Buying this tablet for HDR content is like showing up to the hottest new restaurant in town before it's even been furnished. While it's an impressive future-forward feature, it's too new for you to actually take advantage of and enjoy. But even without a catalog of HDR content, you're still getting one of the best visual experiences on any screen, because this is an AMOLED display, which is a close cousin of the OLED displays found in the very best TVs , and starting to turn up in some phones and laptops . The revamped S Pen, previously exclusive to Samsung's Note series, has one button and is short and oblong in shape to prevent it from rolling off a desk. It's comfy to grip and writes like a silky smooth ballpoint pen. The fact that it never has be to synced or charged is the icing on the cake. The S Pen is included in the base price. Josh Miller/CNET There's some software integration that makes the Galaxy Tab S3 stylus-friendly. When the screen's unlocked, pressing the S Pen's button and tapping the screen launches a customizable carousel that you can load with your favorite apps. Notes can also be easily jotted down, even when the tablet is locked. When the screen is in sleep mode, tapping it with the stylus while pressing the S Pen's button as you would to launch the carousel opens a simplified black and white note-taking screen, almost like a digital chalkboard. The simple software integration met all of my needs. Josh Miller/CNET Honestly, I wasn't expecting to like the S Pen as much as I did. I've never been a big stylus fan but found myself actively enjoying the feeling of writing with the S Pen. The smooth movement of the rubber tip on the glass felt oddly therapeutic for coloring apps. Writing with it flowed like ink on paper. Apple 's iPad Pro Pencil and the stylus included with Microsoft's Surface products are also excellent in their own ways, but offer different features and have a different feel. There's a bit of a learning curve when it comes to applying the right amount of pressure, but otherwise it's easy to get the hang of. Best of all, the basic software integration satisfied all of my note-taking needs. While I was excited to try the Galaxy S3 for its high-end screen, it's the stylus that kept me coming back for more. It's similar to the iPad Pro connecting magnetically to its edge without Bluetooth . It feels cramped to type on, doesn't automatically shut off the screen when closed and can be unresponsive despite being connected properly. Plus the keys aren't backlit and it only offers one viewing angle, so it can't be adjusted to your liking if, for example, you're using it on your lap. Its only redeeming quality is that it offers a place to store the S-Pen stylus. I suggest a hard pass on the Galaxy Tab S3's keyboard. Josh Miller/CNET To add insult to injury, the keyboard caused performance issues. After disconnecting the tablet from it, the on-screen keyboard would occasionally fail to appear. I was still able to tap the area where the on-screen keyboard would be and letters would appear in text fields, but the on-screen keyboard would remain invisible. I had to restart the tablet to get it back to normal. Another irritating problem was how disconnecting the tablet from the keyboard would cause it to go to sleep. I often casually transition between tablet and laptop mode and vice versa in one sitting. When switching from laptop mode to tablet, I would have to annoyingly re-enter my pin or scan my fingerprint just to continue what I was doing. It magnetically connects and doesn't require Bluetooth. But to be a "laptop replacement" a tablet really does need a keyboard. After one test, looping a local 720p file in airplane mode, the tablet lasted hours. Anecdotally, while streaming video it lasted about 7-8 hours. Check back when we're done testing for the final results. My time with the tablet was marred by some unexpected bugginess. A few games initially crashed upon launch Suicide Squad Special Ops, Hearthstone and Asphalt 8 and I had to uninstall and reinstall 3DMark because it kept crashing when attempting to run the Ice Storm Unlimited benchmark test. And, the new inch iPad a successor to the iPad Air 2 , captures a lot of the high-end feel for hundreds less, although the display and camera aren't as good, and there's no stylus support. Come for the stunning HDR screen, stay for the satisfying stylus. With its S-Pen stylus in tow, it can also work as a high-end digital notepad. The much-touted HDR video support is little more than a marketing bullet point for now, but holds future promise. For the same price, you may choose to invest in a different tablet with more productivity potential. The iPad Pro and Pixel C both offer better keyboard accessories and snappier gaming performance. Not everyone wants or needs a tablet for typing or gaming, though. If you want a great tablet primarily for watching video, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is my new favorite.

One for everything. It has been quite a while since Samsung has upgraded its premium tablet. We were therefore eager to see how the new device, which is equipped with a lot of features and even the S Pen, performs. The tablet can convince in our review, but Samsung cannot keep its premium promise in all Android tablets are quite rare nowadays, so the previous Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 is still a comparatively popular device. Samsung has now announced the new Galaxy Tab S3 SM-T825 and satisfies the demand for a powerful high-end product, but has also reduced the number of products. There will not be an 8-inch model anymore and we do not expect an update for the Galaxy Note Pro models either, since the Galaxy Tab S3 is already shipped with S Pen functionality and the corresponding stylus. Nevertheless, the new tablet offers quite a lot. It is powered by the Snapdragon 820, which is supported by 4 GB of RAM. You also get 32 GB of eMMC storage, which can be expanded by up to 256 GB via the microSD-slot. The Super AMOLED screen features a high resolution and even supports HDR. A modern USB Type-C port also replaces the outdated Micro-USB. As well as a Wi-Fi only model SM-T820; you can also get a version with LTE SM-T825, which corresponds with our test model. There are hardly any other expensive Android tablets anymore. Most devices are designed as convertibles by now, are often shipped with keyboards, and use Windows 10 similar to the siblings Galaxy Book 10 and Book 12. The Apple iPad Pro is certainly the main rival for the Tab S3, but the Lenovo Yoga Book also deserves a look; you can get it both with Android and Windows. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 LTE is very slim at just 6 mm ~ in, but slightly thicker than its predecessor Galaxy Tab S2 mm/~ in. Front and back are protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 4, which is fitted into an aluminum frame. The glass elements are very susceptible to fingerprints, but look very nice when they are clean. The bezels could have been a bit smaller. The build quality of the tablet leaves an excellent impression in general. The gaps are even and the materials are sophisticated. We had some reservations in terms of stability, but there are no problems, even though there is some creaking when we try to twist it. One small issue The frame of the card slot is only made of plastic, and there is only a combined slot for microSD- as well as Nano SIM-cards, so they can only be removed together. This was not the case for the Tab S2. The battery is still integrated and cannot be changed by the user. Unfortunately, Samsung unfortunately has waived any protection against moisture and dust for the Galaxy Tab S3. The tablet performs well, but is not quite as accurate as the Edge 500. We can see occasional shortcuts, but the performance is perfectly adequate for car with the front cameraThe front camera f/ of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 has a fixed focus and takes pictures at up to 5 MP. The performance is sufficient for video calls or selfies in good lighting conditions, but sharpness and details are just average. An image stabilizer is not available. A quick look at the specifications shows that Samsung unlike Apple has not equipped its premium tablet with a great camera, but only an average model. The results are decent in good lighting conditions, but they lack dynamic range, which is not changed by the automatic HDR mode either. The autofocus also has problems focusing from time to time. Pictures are rather dark in low-light situations and details are blurry, but the picture noise is not too bad. The maximum video resolution is Ultra HD 3840x2160 pixels, 30 fps and the clips are limited to ten minutes. The sound of the recordings is okay, but the auto focus still reveals some weaknesses especially with fast camera pans. Colors also appear very pale. The sharpness could be better, even in the center of the picture, but at least it stays on the same average level towards the edges. Many small details are lost and just look like a gray surface. It provides very good gliding capabilities and is both responsive as well as precise. The display supports inputs via Samsung's S Pen, which was developed in cooperation with Wacom. It is also compatible with other Samsung devices. It works perfectly on a Galaxy Note Pro and has even improved compared to the old S Pen, but the S Pen of the Tab S3 is even noticeably better compared with the test model, because Samsung has implemented a better digitizer layer into the panel. Compared to the Note Pro the new pen is bigger and therefore more comfortable to use. However, it cannot be stored inside the case anymore. At least, the optional keyboard cover offers a latch for the pen. The writing experience is totally different compared to older Pro-devices and much improved. As with the Galaxy Note 7, notes can now be taken directly on the standby screen without activating the device. The other S Pen features are similar as well. The S Pen is still not equipped with its own battery. The physical buttons have crisp and well-defined pressure points, are very responsive and firmly integrated into the aluminum frame of the chassis. The fingerprint scanner also works conveniently and unlocks the device pretty quickly. The optional keyboard cover is unfortunately limited to 2 different stand angles and is secured by magnets. It is not perfect for the use on the lap. The keyboard layout, however, is very good and all the 64 keys have convenient travel with a good typing experience, even though the surface is a bit squeezed due to the form factor. We also miss a background illumination for the keys. The cover is attached to the Galaxy Tab S3 via magnets and connected via POGO pins. The Super AMOLED screen features 2048x1536 pixels and also supports the playback of HDR content. This is particularly good news for users of streaming services like Netflix and Amazon Video. Our test model manages only an average brightness distribution, but this is no problem in practice. The display of the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 reaches up to 452 nits at the center on a pure white background with the activated ambient light sensor. We can even measure up to 633 nits in the more realistic APL50 measurement, but only up to 302 nits with the manual control. Clouding is not an issue for the Galaxy Tab S3 thanks to the OLED technology. The tablet can also produce absolute black, which ensures brilliant contrast levels that tend toward infinite. However, the tablet uses pulse-width modulation to control the luminance. It is active on every brightness level and fluctuates between 220 and 240 Hz. The luminance drop from flat angles is small and we can notice a green cast when the angle exceeds 90 degrees, which is typical for many OLED Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 inside the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is not the latest high-end SoC anymore, but the performance is still very good. The graphics adapter Adreno 530 shares the designation with the GPU from the 821, but the clocks are slightly lower. The components are rounded off by 4 GB of RAM. The tablet performs well in the benchmarks, only PCMark determines a score on par with the predecessor Galaxy Tab S2, and even the Galaxy S8+ is only a tad faster. The comparison with the modern high-end smartphone from Samsung still shows that the CPU and GPU performance could have been better with a current top-tier SoC. The iPad 2017 is also faster than the test model in the system as well as GPU benchmarks. This does not make a big difference in practice right now, but might change in 1 or 2 use the preloaded Samsung Browser for the browser benchmarks. The results are good, but cannot compete with Apple’s iPads and also reveal some weaknesses in terms of the Java applications you can use within the browser. Subjectively, however, we could not determine any limitations in everyday applications and websites are completely and quickly loaded on the Samsung Galaxy Tab Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is equipped with 32 GB of eMMC storage, but you can only use GB after the initial set-up. The flash storage is slightly faster compared to the Galaxy Tab S2 but far from being fast by modern standards. Samsung could at least include 64 GB if the storage is so slow. It is also possible to expand the storage via a microSD-card. The performance of the slot is on a combatively good level, but it cannot utilize the full performance of our reference card Toshiba Exceria Pro M401 THN-M401S0640E2, UHS-1 Class 3, up to 95 MB/s read, up to 80 MB/s write.The Qualcomm Adreno 530 in the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is a powerful GPU, which supports modern graphics interfaces such as OpenGL ES or Vulkan. It is powerful enough for smooth gameplay in all games from the Google Play Store, even at the highest settings. This is supported by the benchmarks. It does not matter if you play “Asphalt 8” or “Dead Trigger 2”, both games can be enjoyed without stutters. The loading times, however, are slightly longer due to the slow storage. It also looks as if Samsung has installed a frame limit, because both games are capped at 30 fps, which is sufficient for smooth gameplay. The frame rates in “Asphalt 8” are steady, even after one hour. Both the sensors and the touchscreen work flawlessly and the Galaxy Tab S3 is compact enough for the hands, despite its size. The sound is comparatively good, not only because of the four speakers, but you can also never completely cover them with the hand. Nesse ponto, senti falta de algum suporte na traseira que pudesse mantê-lo de pé. Além disso, o corpo da stylus está mais espesso, com uma pegada parecida com a de uma caneta esferográfica, o que é lado ruim disso é que a caneta é mais grossa que o tablet, e aí não tem aquele espacinho maroto para você a guardar para levar por aí. Até dá para prendê-la na lateral ou na traseira por meio dos ímãs que ficam dentro do aparelho, mas isso não segura a S Pen muito bem. O resultado é que ela vai acabar se soltando, o que é receita certa para você a perder ou ágil e com benefíciosA interface do Galaxy Tab S3 é bem parecida com a que vemos nos celulares mais recentes da Samsung, como o S8, o Note8 e o J5 Pro. Ela é baseada no Android Nougat e está bem melhor que a versões antigas da TouchWiz. O tablet não vem com uma quantidade absurda de aplicativos instalados, e o sistema funciona com bastante agilidade, sem sinais de travamentos ou engasgos. O visual também está clean, o que é outro ponto a a S Pen, o software oferece mais algumas opções. Basta aproximar a ponta da caneta da tela para fazer aparecer o botão do menu de atalhos, que você pode configurar para dar acesso às funções da stylus ou abrir seus apps favoritos. Sucessor do modelo apresentado em 2015, ele se apresenta como um produto versátil para consumo de conteúdo, trabalho criativo, entretenimento e produtividade. Para atender a todo esse público, o tablet chega com hardware poderoso, tela Super AMOLED de 9,7 polegadas com suporte a HDR, caneta de alta precisão na caixa do produto, quatro alto-falantes tunados pela AKG e suporte a acessórios da própria Samsung, inclusive um teclado físico. Esse é basicamente o Galaxy Tab S3 um tablet com bordas de alumínio, traseira de vidro e o trio de botões físicos da Samsung, sendo que o do meio é um leitor de impressões digitais. O Galaxy Tab S3 é um tablet fino e suficientemente leve para segurá-lo por um bom tempo sem cansar os braços, com 6 mm de espessura e 434 gramas. Nas laterais, você encontra uma conexão USB-C, entrada de fone de ouvido de 3,5 mm, quatro alto-falantes, conector magnético para o teclado e bandeja para chip de operadora e microSD. Não há muito o que reclamar do aspecto visual do Galaxy Tab S3, até o momento em que você o pega na mão, quando as marcas de dedo invadem a traseira sem piedade. Além disso, assim como acontece no iPad Pro, eu senti falta de um suporte para guardar a S Pen junto com o tablet. Uma solução como a do Surface Pro, que possui um ímã na lateral para acoplar a caneta, muito me agrada. Apesar dos detalhes, o design da Samsung é bom, com destaque para os quatro alto-falantes, que emitem som de qualidade e até arriscam um pouco de graves. São dois speakers em cima e dois embaixo, então, mesmo segurando o tablet no modo paisagem, pelo menos duas saídas ficarão totalmente desobstruídas. O volume é alto, embora os agudos distorçam um pouco quando o nível está no máximo. Tela Eu nunca escondi minha preferência pela proporção 43 ou mesmo 32 nos tablets. Você pode argumentar que os filmes são 169 e acabam ficando com barras pretas e tem razão, mas as telas mais quadradas são mais vantajosas para qualquer outro tipo de conteúdo, como revistas, desenhos e principalmente navegação, pelo simples fato de que a área útil é maior e você não fica com um salsichão no modo retrato. Com isso em mente, é claro que a tela é um dos maiores pontos positivos do Galaxy Tab S3. O painel Super AMOLED de 9,7 polegadas 2048×1536 pixels tem excelente definição, pretos impecáveis, brilho forte para qualquer situação e uma saturação que agrada. Por padrão, o branco é demasiadamente frio para o meu gosto, mas é possível ajustar o balanço nas configurações do sistema. Para assistir a filmes e séries, o Galaxy Tab S3 também faz bonito. O fato do Super AMOLED apresentar um contraste normalmente maior que um IPS LCD equivalente torna a experiência muito agradável nos vídeos — eu tenho vontade de esticar a tela para 50 polegadas. E, como vem acontecendo em smartphones caros, ele suporta conteúdo em HDR; o maior problema é encontrar algum. Software O Android do Galaxy Tab S3 roda uma interface parecida com a dos smartphones da Samsung com Nougat. Ela apresenta ícones mais contidos e telas mais claras, sem o verde controverso da marca. Achei curiosa a ausência de uma tela do Flipboard à esquerda da tela inicial, que vem nos celulares da Samsung; é um aplicativo de notícias com uma interface mais apresentável em tablets do que smartphones. É verdade que o Android sempre foi muito criticado nos tablets por não ter aplicativos realmente adaptados para telas grandes. Mas minha experiência foi melhor que a esperada Facebook, Instapaper, Newton, Slack, Todoist, Evernote e outros aplicativos que utilizo bastante já entregam uma interface dentro do que eu espero para um tablet, aproveitando bem o espaço do display. Embora aplicativos como Twitter e Spotify ainda tenham apenas interfaces de smartphone esticadas, não há mais um abismo entre Android e iOS como há dois ou três anos. Além disso, funcionalidades bem desenvolvidas pela Samsung, especialmente o multitarefa, que permite executar dois aplicativos lado, só reforçam a experiência. Mas a característica que a Samsung gosta de destacar é a caneta S Pen que, diferentemente do principal concorrente, vem inclusa na caixa e não precisa ser recarregada. É um bom acessório porque combina a precisão da caneta dos Galaxy Note, trazendo ponta fina de 0,7 mm e latência quase imperceptível, com o formato de uma caneta tradicional, mais espessa e agradável de segurar. Para quem desenha, o aplicativo Samsung Notes tem uma variedade de pincéis com tintas que se misturam como no papel e suportam os níveis de pressão. Para quem só é capaz de desenhar uma casa, árvore e pessoa, como eu, a caneta entrega ótima experiência de escrita, e o software faz um ótimo trabalho em desconsiderar a interferência da minha mão canhota enquanto escrevo. Câmera A avaliação de qualidade de câmera depende de qual é o produto. Se fosse um smartphone, eu diria o Galaxy Tab S3 entrega fotos de 13 megapixels com boa saturação e leve presença de ruídos mesmo em cenários com bastante iluminação; ele apresenta suave perda de definição nas bordas, mas não chega a prejudicar claramente o quadro. Em ambientes internos com luz artificial, o sensor tem mais dificuldade em focar e o alcance dinâmico limitado se revela, estourando áreas iluminadas e elevando os ruídos em regiões de sombra. Como é um tablet de quase 10 polegadas, meu atestado é o seguinte códigos de barras são focados rapidamente e têm boa nitidez. Em vários casos, ao voltar a utilizar o tablet, eu senti uma lentidão indesejável — que desapareceu totalmente depois de um ou dois minutos. Outro detalhe é que, embora ele tenha uma entrada para microSD, eu senti falta de uma versão com mais capacidade de armazenamento. 32 GB é pouco se a concorrência já começa com o dobro e vai até 512 GB. É o que digo nos smartphones a memória interna sempre vai ser muito mais rápida que um cartão, e é chato ser obrigado a gerenciar unidades de armazenamento, especialmente em um produto tão caro. A bateria, por sua vez, cumpre com o que promete. A capacidade de mAh é suficiente para manter o tablet ligado por cerca de 7 horas de navegação interrupta no Wi-Fi; eu consumi metade da bateria em três horas e meia. Nos testes de vídeo, ele aguentou exatamente 10h32min de streaming de vídeo da Netflix com brilho em 60%, nada muito abaixo da estimativa de 12 horas divulgada pela Samsung. Conclusão O Galaxy Tab S3 é um tablet bom. Ponto. Ele tem ótimo desempenho para qualquer tarefa, uma bateria que dá conta do recado, um software bem desenvolvido e, principalmente, uma tela sensacional. Essa é a conclusão do review do produto em si. Mas, se me permitem, preciso tecer alguns comentários sobre o mercado brasileiro de tablets. Não está havendo um meio termo nos produtos. Existem os baratos, que são ruins e têm comprometimentos demais em favor do preço. E existem os bons, que são absurdamente caros. Eu não encontro um custo-benefício realmente interessante no país desde o lançamento LG G Pad em 2014. E o tablet da Samsung se enquadra na segunda categoria por R$ ele é tão bom quanto caro. Não que seu principal concorrente também não seja considerando a caneta, um acessório não suportado pelo iPad mais básico, você gastaria pelo menos cinco mil reais na plataforma da Apple, levando em consideração um iPad Pro de 10,5 polegadas de 64 GB sem 4G e com a Apple Pencil de R$ 799. O ponto é por esse preço, o Galaxy Tab S3 se torna um produto de alcance extremamente limitado. Ele pode ser útil para artistas que não querem gastar o dobro na concorrência e para pessoas que 1 fazem questão de consumir conteúdo em uma tela grande de alta qualidade; 2 não se importam em carregar mais um dispositivo para todo lugar e; 3 estão com dinheiro sobrando. Os tablets estão vendendo cada vez menos no Brasil, com uma queda de 32% em apenas um ano, e não é difícil entender o motivo.
